با انتشار نامه‌ای رسمی و پس از ۲ دهه وقف عمرش در سلامت زنبور و زنبورداری جهان
وداع آرام جف پتیس با آپیموندیا؛ «من زندگی متفاوتی برای انجام دادن دارم»
پیتر کُزموس، مسئولیت ریاست موقت را تا زمان برگزاری انتخابات ریاست جدید در کنگره ۲۰۲۷ در دُبی پذیرفت
به گزارش تلویزیون اینترنتی کشاورزپلاس، فدراسیون بین‌المللی انجمن‌های زنبورداران (آپیموندیا) روز دوم اکتبر ۲۰۲۵ و چند روز پس از پایان برگزاری کنگره آپیموندیا 2025 در کپنهاگ دانمارک با انتشار نامه‌ای رسمی از سوی دکتر جف پتیس، رئیس این فدراسیون، از کناره‌گیری او از سمت ریاست آپیموندیا خبر داد.
پتیس در این نامه خطاب به «زنبورداران، همکاران و دوستان گرامی» اعلام کرد که تصمیم گرفته از سمت خود کناره‌گیری کند. او نوشت:
«این تصمیم آسانی نبود. بنا بر توصیه پزشکم، همچنین به دلیل تعهدات خانوادگی و وظایفی که در قبال همسرم ماریان و دیگر مسئولیت‌های حرفه‌ای دارم، ادامه خدمت شایسته به آپیموندیا برای دو سال باقی‌مانده برایم ممکن نیست. به‌راحتی نمی‌توانم زمان و انرژی‌ای را که این نهاد شایسته آن است، صرف کنم.»
پتیس در ادامه با نگاهی به گذشته فعالیت خود گفت:
«فعالیت من با آپیموندیا از سال ۱۹۹۹ در ونکوور کانادا به عنوان داوطلب آغاز شد. سپس به عنوان رئیس کمیسیون سلامت زنبور و در 6 سال اخیر به عنوان رئیس آپیموندیا خدمت کردم. از این خدمت افتخارآمیز بسیار خرسندم و دلتنگ همکاران و دوستانی خواهم شد که از سراسر جهان در چارچوب آپیموندیا با آنان آشنا شدم.»
او با اشاره به آخرین کنگره جهانی زنبورداری در کپنهاگ افزود:
«مایلم از همه کسانی که در چهل‌ونهمین کنگره در کپنهاگ شرکت کردند، تشکر کنم. و برای کسانی که نتوانستند حضور یابند، باید بگویم رویداد فوق‌العاده‌ای را از دست دادید. آپیموندیا میزبان بیش از ۸٬۰۰۰ شرکت‌کننده از دست‌کم ۱۴۴ کشور بود — واقعاً رویدادی جهانی. آپیموندیا تلاش خواهد کرد اطلاعات ارائه‌شده در این کنگره را به‌صورت دیجیتال و از طریق وب‌سایت خود در دسترس قرار دهد.»
رئیس پیشین آپیموندیا در بخش دیگری از پیام خود خاطرنشان کرد:
«اکنون که از سمت ریاست کناره‌گیری می‌کنم، کار آپیموندیا همچنان ادامه دارد. از دفتر ما در رم و از آقای پیتر کُزموس برای پذیرش مسئولیت ریاست موقت تا زمان برگزاری انتخابات ریاست جدید در کنگره ۲۰۲۷ در دُبی، صمیمانه سپاسگزارم.»
او در پایان با لحنی صمیمی و آرام به آینده اشاره کرد و نوشت:
«اگرچه از این سمت کنار می‌روم، اما ناپدید نخواهم شد. قصد دارم زمان بیشتری را به خانواده، پژوهش و پروژه‌ای در آفریقا اختصاص دهم. همان‌طور که کسی روزی به سادگی گفت: "من زندگی متفاوتی برای انجام دادن دارم." فعالیت داوطلبانه من در آپیموندیا تجربه‌ای ارزشمند و افتخاری بزرگ برایم بوده است. با بهترین آرزوها برای همه شما — امیدوارم شما و زنبورهای‌تان در سلامت و شکوفایی باشید. زنبوردار باشید و خوب بمانید.»
این نامه با امضای رسمی دکتر جف پتیس، رئیس پیشین آپیموندیا پایان یافت؛ وداعی آرام، انسانی و پرمعنا از چهره‌ای که 2 دهه از عمر خود را وقف سلامت زنبور و زنبورداری جهان کرد.
تحلیل محمود رمضانی از کناره‌گیری غافلگیرانه «جف پتیس» از ریاست آپیموندیا
در همین زمینه، محمود رمضانی، کارشناس و فعال باسابقه زنبورداری کشور که مقیم خارج از کشور است، در گفت‌وگوی کوتاه تلفنی با تلویزیون اینترنتی کشاورزپلاس با نگاهی تحلیلی به این رویداد، گفت:
«دکتر جف پتیس در چند دوره‌ای که ریاست چند دوره اخیر آپیموندیا را بر عهده داشت، نقش بی‌بدیلی در گسترش تعاملات جهانی و افزایش استقبال زنبورداران جهان با یکدیگر ایفا کرد؛ او به‌ویژه توانست جامعه زنبورداری آمریکا را که تا پیش از این ارتباط کمتری با بدنه بین‌المللی داشتند، به شکلی گسترده‌تر وارد فضای آپیموندیا کند و همین امر موجب شد در آخرین کنگره شاهد حضور حدود 300 نفر از زنبورداران و پژوهشگران علمی از آمریکا باشیم؛ اتفاقی که بی‌تردید حاصل اعتبار علمی و مدیریتی شخص پتیس بود.»
رمضانی با اشاره به شخصیت علمی و اخلاقی رئیس پیشین آپیموندیا افزود:
« شخصیت علمی ایشان واقعاً شایسته بود و در اوج عملکردش هم کناره‌گیری کرد؛ چون توانست رکوردی تاریخی ثبت کند و بیش از 8 هزار نفر را برای شرکت در کنگره کپنهاگ دانمارک نام‌نویسی نماید؛ اما ای کاش این موضوع در مجمع عمومی همین کنگره مطرح می‌شد تا زمینه انتخاب جانشین جدید او فراهم شود. ظاهراً در شرایط کنونی هنوز فرد مناسبی برای این جایگاه تعیین نشده و به همین دلیل مسئولیت موقت به آقای پیتر کُزموس سپرده شده تا زمان برگزاری کنگره ۲۰۲۷ در دبی.»
او در پایان تأکید کرد که گرچه کناره‌گیری پتیس برای بسیاری از فعالان غافلگیرکننده بود، اما میراث مدیریتی و فرهنگی او در آپیموندیا ـ مبتنی بر 3 اصل ارتباط، تنوع و احترام ـ بی‌تردید در مسیر آینده این نهاد بین‌المللی تداوم خواهد یافت؛ میراثی که نه‌فقط بر سلامت زنبورها، بلکه بر پویایی روابط میان انسان‌ها در جامعه جهانی زنبورداری نیز اثرگذار خواهد ماند.
سوابق جف پتیس
پتیس پیش از این از سپتامبر ۲۰۱۵ تا سپتامبر ۲۰۱۹ به‌عنوان رئیس کمیسیون علمی سلامت زنبور در آپیموندیا فعالیت داشت. او از خانواده‌ای کشاورز آمد و در دوران تحصیل در دانشگاه جورجیا، هنگام گذراندن دوره‌ای در زنبورداری، دل‌باخته زنبورهای عسل شد. وی تحصیلات کارشناسی ارشد و دکترای خود را در رشته حشره‌شناسی (انتمولوژی) با تمرکز بر کنه‌های انگلی زنبور عسل به پایان رساند.
پتیس تا پیش از ریاست آپیموندیا بیش از ۲۰ سال به‌عنوان پژوهشگر در وزارت کشاورزی ایالات متحده آمریکا (USDA) فعالیت داشت و پس از ترک آن، به‌صورت جهانی در زمینه سلامت زنبور عسل مشاوره می‌داد.
او بیش از ۳۵ سال سابقه زنبورداری داشت و تا قبل از ریاست آپیموندیا به‌همراه پسر کوچکش کوین در شهر سالزبری، ایالت مریلند آمریکا، ۷۵ کندو را مدیریت می‌کرد. زمینه‌های کاری او همچنان بر سلامت ملکه زنبور، کنه‌های انگلی و سلامت گرده‌افشان‌ها متمرکز بود.
پتیس در سخنرانی پذیرش خود در مونترال، چشم‌انداز خود برای آپیموندیا را در 3 واژه خلاصه کرده بود: ارتباط، تنوع و احترام.
به باور او، افزایش ارتباطات برای رشد آپیموندیا حیاتی است؛ لازم است تنوع زنبورداران و گونه‌های مختلف زنبور در سراسر جهان بازتاب یابد و در نهایت، باید به زنبورها احترام بگذاریم.
”Jeff Pettis’s Gentle Farewell to Apimondia: “I Have a Different Life to Live
According to KeshavarzPlus Internet TV, the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations (Apimondia) announced on October 2, 2025, just days after the conclusion of the Apimondia 2025 Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, that Dr. Jeff Pettis, President of the Federation, has resigned from his position.
In an open letter addressed to Beekeepers, colleagues, and dear friends, Pettis wrote:
“This was not an easy decision. On my doctor’s advice, and because of family commitments and responsibilities toward my wife Marianne and other professional duties, it is not possible for me to continue serving Apimondia as it deserves for the remaining two years of my term. I simply cannot dedicate the time and energy that this great organization requires.”
Reflecting on his long-standing involvement, he added:
“My journey with Apimondia began in 1999 in Vancouver, Canada, as a volunteer. I then served as President of the Bee Health Commission, and for the past six years, as President of Apimondia. It has been an honor and a joy to serve, and I will miss the colleagues and friends I’ve met from all around the world through Apimondia.”
He also referred to the recent World Beekeeping Congress in Copenhagen:
“I wish to thank everyone who attended the 49th Congress in Copenhagen. For those who couldn’t make it, you missed an extraordinary event. Apimondia hosted more than 8,000 participants from at least 144 countries — truly a global gathering. Apimondia will work to make the information presented at this Congress available digitally through its website.”
The outgoing president further stated:
“Now that I am stepping down from the presidency, the work of Apimondia continues. I am sincerely grateful to our office in Rome and to Mr. Peter Kozmus for accepting the role of Acting President until the next presidential election at the 2027 Congress in Dubai.”
In closing, Pettis wrote with a calm and heartfelt tone:
“Although I am stepping aside, I won’t disappear. I plan to devote more time to my family, research, and a project in Africa. As someone once simply said: ‘I have a different life to live.’ My volunteer service in Apimondia has been a valuable and deeply honorable experience.
With my best wishes to all of you — may you and your bees stay healthy and thriving.
Be a beekeeper, and be well.”
The letter, signed by Dr. Jeff Pettis, concluded as a quiet, human, and meaningful farewell from a figure who dedicated two decades of his life to the health of bees and the advancement of global beekeeping.
Mahmoud Ramazani’s Analysis of Jeff Pettis’s Surprising Resignation from Apimondia Presidency
In this regard, Mahmoud Ramazani, an experienced beekeeper and analyst based abroad, shared his perspective in a brief phone interview with KeshavarzPlus Internet TV:
“Dr. Jeff Pettis, during the several terms he led Apimondia, played a unique role in expanding global cooperation and enhancing interaction among beekeepers worldwide. He particularly succeeded in involving the American beekeeping community — which previously had less connection with the international body — much more deeply in Apimondia. This was evident in the most recent Congress, where about 300 American beekeepers and researchers participated, a clear reflection of Pettis’s scientific and managerial credibility.”
Ramazani added, highlighting Pettis’s academic and ethical character:
“He was a truly worthy scientific figure and stepped down at the peak of his performance. He managed to set a historic record, registering more than 8,000 participants for the Copenhagen Congress — the highest in Apimondia’s history.
However, I wish this issue had been raised during the Congress’s General Assembly so that the process of selecting his successor could have been initiated. Apparently, no suitable candidate has yet been chosen, and therefore Mr. Peter Kozmus has temporarily assumed the role until the 2027 Dubai Congress.”
He concluded:
“Although Pettis’s resignation surprised many in the beekeeping world, his managerial and cultural legacy at Apimondia — based on the three principles of Communication, Diversity, and Respect — will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of this international organization. His impact extends not only to the health of bees but also to strengthening human connections within the global beekeeping community.”
Background of Dr. Jeff Pettis
Before his presidency, Pettis served as Chair of the Apimondia Scientific Commission for Bee Health from September 2015 to September 2019. Coming from a farming family, he fell in love with honey bees while taking a Beekeeping course at the University of Georgia. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Entomology, focusing on parasitic mites of honey bees.
Pettis worked for over 20 years as a research scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) before moving on to global consulting on bee health.
He has been a beekeeper for more than 35 years and, prior to becoming president of Apimondia, managed 75 hives with his younger son, Kevin, in Salisbury, Maryland, USA. His research interests have remained centered on queen health, parasitic mites, and pollinator health.
In his acceptance speech in Montreal, Pettis summarized his vision for Apimondia in three words:
Communication, Diversity, and Respect.
He believed that enhanced communication was vital to Apimondia’s growth, that the diversity of beekeepers and bee species worldwide should be reflected, and that above all, we must respect the bees.
